Adjust an Object

Have you noticed that when you insert an object, such as a piece of clip art, a picture, or a logo, it seems to want to stay in one place? And if you do manage to move it, the words move, too?

Well, we have the answer! Follow these steps* and you will be able to move that object wherever your little heart desires.

  1. Click on the outer portion of the object
  2. RIGHT click on the object (a menu appears)
  3. Choose Format Object
  4. Choose the LAYOUT tab
  5. Choose a layout such as "Square" or "Tight." (You might need to play around and see what works best for your situation.)
  6. On the bottom right-hand side, choose "ADVANCED…"
  7. On the Picture Position tab, UNCHECK the following options "Move…", "Lock..." and "Allow..."
  8. Click OK twice

Now, click on the object and you can easily drag it around.

*These steps may be slightly different in various versions of Microsoft Word. Read the dialog boxes as you go along to stay on track.
